Telling a testimony to your group, your church or on the Feed

A testimony among believers has a special function: it encourages those who are tired, feeds faith, reminds us that God is at work today. This weekly quest invites you to share a testimony in your group, your church or on the app's edification Feed, to strengthen other believers.

What it looks like in your day

Choose a testimony. Something God has done in your life, recently or long ago. An answered prayer, a consolation, a forgiveness, a direction, a deliverance, a moment when you felt his presence.

Prepare it in five sentences.

  1. What I was going through.
  2. What I asked or did.
  3. What God did.
  4. What I understood about him.
  5. What I would like to say to those going through the same thing.

Put God at the center. A testimony is not a talk about you, but about what God has done. End with a sentence of gratitude.

Choose the place. In a house group, you can say it aloud. At church, ask your leader whether there is a time for testimonies. On the app's Feed, write a text of a few lines. In every case, stay brief: two to three minutes aloud, a short paragraph in writing.

Respect others. Don't name the people involved without their agreement. Keep sensitive details to yourself.

Listen to the reactions. Testimonies prompt others. Welcome what others share in turn.

If you are short on time, three sentences are enough. If you are shy, writing is easier than speaking. If you think your story is too simple, remember that people often see themselves better in simple stories.

What the Bible says

The book of Revelation mentions the role of testimony in believers' victory:

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.”

“By the word of their testimony”: testimony is not a detail, it is a spiritual weapon. Telling what God has done strengthens faith. A psalm expresses this decision to tell the community:

“I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.”

“I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee”: a testimony is first an act of praise, addressed to God in front of his people. In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus asks a healed man to tell what God has done for him (Mark 5:19). The witness doesn't preach: he tells what he has seen.

Pitfalls to avoid

Putting yourself forward. If the story is mostly about you, the goal is missed. Show what God has done.

Turning the testimony into a lesson. “Do as I do” is weaker than “Here is what happened to me.”

Trying to impress. Spectacular stories are not better. A plain account can touch deeply.

Embellishing. Keep the truth of what you lived, including what remains unresolved.

Staying in the distant past. Recent testimonies are often the most encouraging: they show that God is acting now.

This week, prepare a testimony in five sentences. Share it in your group, your church or on the Feed.
